Cendol House | Taman Mutiara, BM, Penang

We had our lunch at cendol house on last weekend. Before that, we passed by this shop house but never give them a try. Since they claimed that "We served best cendol in town", so we give it a try. This shop not only sell cendol, but also laksa, nasi lemak, nasi kunyit with curry chicken. Two of us ordered one each to try. Cendol is ok but this small bowl cost RM2. Santan (coconut milk) taste is not very thick but when mix with brown/coconut sugar syrup, it tasted good. Ingredients in cendol include red bean and cendol.

 

Apple + Breast Milk | Baby Food for 6 Months Old

When baby more than 6 months, I started to think what to serve her besides breast milk. The first thing I make for her is steam apple with breast milk. Ingredients:AppleBeasts milk Method:1. Peel apple skin, cut into small cube. 2. Steam apple in boiling water until soft.   3. Mash with spoon.4. Mix well with breast milk.   I am very happy to see her grow healthily with food I make for her. Although breast feeding journey is tiring, but everything is worth when see her growing up with my own breast milk.

 

Baked Mooncake Recipe 公仔饼/猪仔饼

My mother usually will buy home made mooncake (gong zai bing) from her friend every year. This year her friend does not make the mooncake to sell, so we make it ourself. It is not difficult to make this gong zai bing, we get ingredients and recipe from one of the ingredient shop in Penang. The sales person recommended us to use pure peanut oil as our cooking oil is not a pure peanut oil, they added a kind of essence to make cooking oil. I do not know how true it is, but from the price, they have so much difference in "real" peanut oil (RM11 for 500g) compare to our cooking oil. We also bought cake flour from her to make the mooncake but according to her, any medium protein flour will do. Recall back last year, I used low protein flour to make gong zai bing. Golden syrup is expensive too, RM11.50 for 1kg.  Ingredients:500ml golden syrup200ml peanut oil15ml lye water700g medium protein flour/cake flour Method:1. Mix golden syrup, peanut oil and lye water in big bowl until combine.2. Sift in flour and mix until combine. Do not overmix to prevent mixture become hard.3. Cover bowl and leave for 6 hours or overnight. (compare with my last year recipe, which need to leave for 2 hours only, the sales person said 6 hours will let the flour absorb oil/golden syrup fully and give the mooncake better taste)4. Preheat oven at 180C for half an hour.5. Divide dough to 40g each and roll it round, lightly press with palm to flatten it.6. Bake in oven (fan-forced) for 12 mins or until cooked. The gong zai bing smell and taste really good after baked. It is best to keep and consume after 3 days, as when the biscuit just out from oven, the texture is not soft yet. I will keep this recipe for future use. The same recipe can be used to make traditional mooncake (wrap with filling) too. Almond Nibs Biscuit Recipe

If you like almond and crispy type of biscuit, you will like this recipe. This is a very easy recipe with very simple ingredients. Do this especially when you have left over egg white as this recipe calls only for egg white without egg yolk. I will share the recipe with one egg white, just multiply the recipe with number of egg white if you want to do more.

Recently, there are new types of coffee from Pokka Company in Japan. It is an aromax series coffee, four types of new aromax coffee namely "Black", "Ice Latte", "Espresso" and "Premium Gold". I have tried all of them and collected the cans of these 4 types coffee.

Drinking cute mini can coffee in Japan is enjoyable but this is the first time I collected the cans. The reason is they are special in the sense that this is the first time I saw mini can with cover. Hence I collected 4 of them and wanted to bring them back to Malaysia as one of my collection.

I bought all of them from company's vending machine, 90 yen each (about RM3.20). Normal price from outside vending machine is 120 yen each (about RM4.20).

For about 1 year, I have no chance to bake a fresh cream cake. Now, I am back to my little kitchen to bake something. Yeh! First fresh cream cake I baked this year for my lovely niece four years old birthday celebration, and I baked a fruit cheese cake for her.

Kaya_11"kaya" is a jam made with coconut milk (santan), sugar and eggs. Pandan leaves are added during cooking process to bring more fragrance to the jam.

I have this homemade kaya recipe from my mother while she made kaya jam last Sunday. The ingredients used are very simple but I was impressed with her patient during the cooking process. It was really time consuming to make the delicious kaya. You need to stir the mixture continuously during the cooking process in order to get the smooth texture kaya.

If this time consuming version does not suit you, go for this version, which only required less than 30 minutes to get your kaya jam ready.

Since it is a place for drinking, many Izakaya provide drinking buffer (飲み放題 "nomihoudai") package. If you are to order a set package, many of them come with appetizer, main dishes, salad, dessert and some side dishes. The drinks are buffet type and you can choose from soft drink, wine, cocktail, sake and others. Most of them are alcohol.

I have visited to many of the Izakaya during the stay in Japan. Most of the times were attended farewell or welcoming party with Japanese colleague. I have no chance to take good photo during dining with them.

Sukiyaki_2When I was working in Japan, I attended Japanese class in order to improve my Japanese language. I have a Japanese teacher who taught me the Japanese language for about a year when I stayed there. Before the training end, I was invited to her house for dinner. I feel glad to have the opportunity to visit her house.
