Yong Pin Restaurant Dim Sum 榕槟茶楼点心 | Penang

Out of many dim sum restaurant in Penang, Yong Pin restaurant is one of the best to Camus and myself. This restaurant has been serving dim sum for many years. We had our early breakfast at Yong Pin last week. We order few types of dim sum with a pot of hot Pu Er tea. Yong Pin Restaurant at Jalan Sungai Ujong. Lo mai kai (steamed glutinous rice with chicken), not oily and texture of glutinous rice was just nice, not overcook like many others dim sum restaurant did, but you can only find a small piece of chicken, pork and mushroom in it. We simply love the tradiotional taste of this fried radish cake. Not easy to get it at some where else. Tasted good and chewy fish ball, with green shallot and red chilli. Curd pork pao. My favourite golden yolk pao. Price for each type of dim sum and tea is clearly listed. Prices and photos for all types of Pao. I do not list out all types of dim sum that we ate, but most of them tasted good, we also bought their "sak kei ma" (1 box RM5) which was very nice too. Kuih Koci Recipe

This is my first time making kuih koci, one of my favourite kuih. It is easy to make but for wrapping filling part, I found it is a bit difficult as I can't really wrap coconut filling evenly. Here you go with the recipe. Recipe obtained from Agnes Chang: RecipeFor Skin300g glutinous rice flour1tbsp cornflour1tbsp caster sugar1tbsp oil2tbsp pandan juice240ml coconut milk (obtain from 1/2 coconut)

 

Mikki G Restaurant (Formerly Home's Cafe) | D'piazza, Bayan Lepas

After Green Island western food restaurant, there is another newly open western food restaurant in Bayan Lepas area. It was formerly known as Home's Cafe, and now change to Mikki G. We managed to visit this place on last Friday, second day of the opening. 10% discount on all foods and it is applicable until end of April 2013. Heard that the chef is from Legend hotel in KL. The interior of the restaurant remained the same as previous and worker's uniform is still black in colour. Menu wise, they serve more on western food, including chicken chop, chicken cordon bleu, roast rosemary chicken, spegetti and etc. Lamb shrank is popular according to my colleague. Besides, the old menu "Local Delight" from Home's Cafe are still available.

BreadMaker_6_copyThis is a new bread maker that I bought some times ago. After the first unit of bread maker that I bought from Cosway, this is the 2nd unit that I bought from there. It is mom's birthday present.

The new bread maker comes with more functions compare to the first one, and it can make bigger loaf. The additional functions that attract me are "bake cake", "make jam", "bake only". I am not sure how delicious the cake is if you bake with bread maker. Well, I will try it! The "bake only" function is good where you can let the machine prepare the dough at first, and then remove the dough from machine and roll it to small ball (add some filling too), then put back to the machine for "bake only", so you do not need to always make a "Gardenia" or "High 5" bread, and it does not required oven.

DurianCrepe_8After durian butter cake, I have tried with another new type of cake, durian crepe cake. I ate my first mille crepe during my stay in Japan. From there, I get to know mille crepe, a very delicious and special cake. Last year, I ordered one peanut butter mille crepe for Camus on his birthday, and it tasted heavenly.

I wanted to make my own crepe too but due to time concern, I have no chance to make one. This time, since it is durian season, I make a durian crepe.

Besides frozen cheese cake, this is another type of cake where you can make it without oven. The way of making the crepe is the same as making pan cake. You just need to fried the crepe piece by piece, prepare the filling and stack the crepe together with the filling until you get a perfect cake.

Durian_7June of year 2011 is the best time to indulge durians, the King of Fruits. Compare to past few years, this year durian's harvest is better and hence the price is predicted to drop week after week. (Hope my prediction is correct!)

Last weekend we had an outing visiting durian farm at Genting, Balik Pulau, Penang. It is the farm of my dad's friend. On our way to the farm, I saw many stores selling durians at roadside. The durian's aromatic scent awakened my groggy head.
