Baked Mooncake Recipe 公仔饼/猪仔饼

My mother usually will buy home made mooncake (gong zai bing) from her friend every year. This year her friend does not make the mooncake to sell, so we make it ourself. It is not difficult to make this gong zai bing, we get ingredients and recipe from one of the ingredient shop in Penang. The sales person recommended us to use pure peanut oil as our cooking oil is not a pure peanut oil, they added a kind of essence to make cooking oil. I do not know how true it is, but from the price, they have so much difference in "real" peanut oil (RM11 for 500g) compare to our cooking oil. We also bought cake flour from her to make the mooncake but according to her, any medium protein flour will do. Recall back last year, I used low protein flour to make gong zai bing. Golden syrup is expensive too, RM11.50 for 1kg.  Ingredients:500ml golden syrup200ml peanut oil15ml lye water700g medium protein flour/cake flour Method:1. Mix golden syrup, peanut oil and lye water in big bowl until combine.2. Sift in flour and mix until combine. Do not overmix to prevent mixture become hard.3. Cover bowl and leave for 6 hours or overnight. (compare with my last year recipe, which need to leave for 2 hours only, the sales person said 6 hours will let the flour absorb oil/golden syrup fully and give the mooncake better taste)4. Preheat oven at 180C for half an hour.5. Divide dough to 40g each and roll it round, lightly press with palm to flatten it.6. Bake in oven (fan-forced) for 12 mins or until cooked. The gong zai bing smell and taste really good after baked. It is best to keep and consume after 3 days, as when the biscuit just out from oven, the texture is not soft yet. I will keep this recipe for future use. The same recipe can be used to make traditional mooncake (wrap with filling) too. I bought this Moist Supreme Cake Mix and keep for few weeks before my baking mood is back. Recently, I am too lazy to do baking, house keeping, reading, everything...even cutting cake into slices also lazy. Hence I decided to bake them in paper cups.

 

Fresh Sashimi | Hypermarket Japan

I have just passed my first weekend in Japan. This time I am in Osaka. For my first shopping, I bought a lot of foods, not for one day, but for one week. Since this time I will at here for only 3 weeks, so I bought some to bring back to Malaysia too. On Sunday, I bought a pack of sashimi for my dinner. 6 types of sashimi in a box. Although it is from hyper market, but all are very fresh. I like salmon and prawn the most. Just now, I tried the pre-pack sesame cold noodle. During summer, they have different kinds of cold noodle. This cold noodle is instant pack that I bought from same hyper market. Taste not bad too. Others food that I bought include can coffee, yakult, biscuits, egg pudding that I like so much, fruit juice, milk tea that I miss so much, varient kinds of pocky and more. Caramel egg pudding I wish I can go for next shopping soon so that I can grab for more foods! Japan foods, I miss you so much!!!

看完了"香港,澳门,珠海,广州,深圳 六天五夜 行 (第一章)"之后,让我们继续第二天的行程吧! 23/10/2012 7:50今天一大早就被叫醒,这也是我不喜欢跟旅行团的另一个原因。为了赶上每个行程,每天七早八早就要被吵醒。自由行就不同,你可以自己安排自己的行程,爱几点醒就几点醒哈!但跟随旅行团可免掉自己安排行程的麻烦,酒店也不必自己操心,有好有坏啦。 今天的开始是从香港点心开始。来到香港,点心是我们的另一个期待。由于酒店没包早餐,司机带我们到外享用早餐。我们抵达一间餐厅,那里的装饰不算豪华,就是有种老土的感觉,餐厅装潢好像七十年代的。

ColdSoba2With today's technology, you really won't be surprised that everyone can surf for any information in their palms. Yes, smart phones did a very good job in today's world. Now, I am trying to edit photos, write and upload this post with my smart phone.

As for today, I wil share on very simple cold soba recipe. If you can cook instant noodle like Maggi Mee, I am sure you can cook this cold soba too.

Ingredients needed are simple: soba, soba sauce, wasabi and green shallots.

Firstly, cook soba in boiling water for about 5 minutes, when it is done, take them out from pot and soak in ice water for a while. Then transfer soba to a plate.

To make sauce, mix soba sauce and cold water, with 1:1 proportion.

Serve cold with wasabi and green shallots.
