Cha Dango 京の茶だんご | Japan

Dango is a Japanese dumpling made from mochiko, rice flour. There are many varieties of dango in Japan and normally three to four dango are often served on a skewer. The texture of the dango is very similar to chinese glutinous flour ball (tang yuan), especially the plain dango, not only the texture, the taste is almost close to tang yuan. On this post, I would like to share on the Cha Dango from Kyoto, Japan 京の茶だんご. It is a green tea flavour dango where only sells in Kyoto area. I have never see this brand of dango in Tokyo.

 

Steam Chicken with Mushroom Using Cosway Steamer

Recently when we were doing house keeping, we found out that there is a unit of steamer given by Camus's mom. She bought it from Cosway many years ago but did not use it at all. We took it out from our store room and keep it at kicthen. Last two weeks, we used it to cook for our lunch and dinner. We found it quite useful and easy to use without dirty our kicthen, hence not much cleaning job after cook except for washing the steamer part by part after use. We first try with steam chicken with mushroon, the night before cook, we merinate two big chicken drumsticks with oyster sauce, soy sauce and pepper. To make the chicken more delicious, we added dried mushroom, red dates and ginger to the chicken on the day we cooked. Since the steamer contains three layers, we put in lady finger and corn too. With this simple and easy cooking way, we were able to enjoy our meal, and it was so delicious.

 

Cosway Bread Maker Machine

This is a new bread maker that I bought some times ago. After the first unit of bread maker that I bought from Cosway, this is the 2nd unit that I bought from there. It is mom's birthday present. The new bread maker comes with more functions compare to the first one, and it can make bigger loaf. The additional functions that attract me are "bake cake", "make jam", "bake only". I am not sure how delicious the cake is if you bake with bread maker. Well, I will try it! The "bake only" function is good where you can let the machine prepare the dough at first, and then remove the dough from machine and roll it to small ball (add some filling too), then put back to the machine for "bake only", so you do not need to always make a "Gardenia" or "High 5" bread, and it does not required oven.

I am a dessert LOVER, it brings me happiness. That's the reason why I love baking.Due to this reason, we visited one dessert house "Sweet Hut" at Kuchai Lama. We ordered a set of dessert cost RM22. The set came with Coconut Pudding with Mango Ice, Japanese Chestnut Chocolate Cake with Cookies Ice Cream and Aloe Jelly & Coconut Milk Ice Blended.

DurianChIt's durian season again, I will jump into durian chiffon cake recipe first before I continue to post for other chiffon cakes recipe. I used my recipe keeper (with step by step procedure) and modify to make this durian chiffon cake.

Among all my chiffon cakes (exclude those failed one), I would like to share on Matcha (green tea) chiffon cake recipe first. It was my first (so-called) successful chiffon cake after my hard pray to God. It was my big motivation after failure that caused big dissapoinment on last black sesame chiffon cake. It gave me courage to bake more chiffon cakes after "pass this difficult test".

CCSomething About Myself with Chiffon Cake

Some time ago, I have been working on chiffon cake. I failed almost all times when come to chiffon cake, like this one. Even though I had attended a part time baking course on baking chiffon cake, but when bake on my own, I still failed to handle it. I am not sure of what causes them failed, at the end I gave up on chiffon cake and any cakes that need folding egg white into egg yolk mixture, because I handled this so BADLY.

RasCheese_10It was my nieces birthday again on last two weeks. Yes, again...she is now 10 years old and her sister whose birthday also fall in May, is 7 years old this year. Time flies, I am getting older and they are getting bigger. Our family normally celebratetheir birthday at the same day since both birthday fall in May. We always say they are "sipek ho mia" (super good fortune) because we celebrated their birthday yearly. Unlike my generation, I only get to celebrate my birthday on my 12th and 18th birthday.

HawLC_8After prune Indonesia layer cake, I am confident to bake layer cake again. This time, I baked Indonesia layer cake with hawflakes. Recipe follow the same as prune layer cake, except that prune was replaced with hawflakes. After first lesson learnt from prune layer cake, this time, with more cares and precaution steps, I am happy to say that it was a very successful and delicious one.

This round, every single layer is baked until even darker brown, about 6~7 minutes per layer. I baked at upper level of oven. Hawflakes were arranged at 3rd and 6th layers. Melted butter was brushed for every two layers. I managed to bake a total of 8 layers at 8" square cake tin, every layers were measured evenly with one cup of mixture.

You will never understand my feeling, the feeling of excitement and satisfactory once I had successfully baked this cake. Indonesia layer cake is my favorite cake since I was young, same to my family. We used to order this cake from my father's friend, who married a Medan wife and make a very nice layer cake. Year after year, the price getting more and more expensive but we still buy from them especially during Chinese New Year. I made this few years ago and ended up with throw everything into dustbin due to the super "compress" and oily layer. Waste lot of eggs, ingredients, $$ and many hours of baking time.

If you never hear of this cake, let me briefly explain about it. It is an Indonesia cake, also called kuih lapis legit,
