Heng Thai Seafood Restaurant (Thai-Chinese food) | Raja Uda

We found one Chinese-Thai food restaurant few weeks ago at Raja Uda, it was not our first intention to dine there. We were hungry and looking for something good and special for our dinner, we went to Kampung Baru for our first stop, looking for Japanese food, but there was an event held at Kampung Baru causing heavy traffic jam. We changed our dinner place to Salad Bowl at Chain Ferry, bad luck, it was closed on that day. We drove towards Raja Uda direction, Sawara steamboat get our attention and we sat in to read the menu. After 5 minutes, we walked out from Sawara due to super expensive of the meal. Finally, we went in this not so attractive but crowded restaurant. It was already 9pm and after make order, still have to wait for another 25-30minutes. I can say that it was worth waiting as the dishes that we ordered taste delicious and very similar to Thai local taste. That time was only Camus and myself, two persons cannot order much. One big fish, two big prawns and a plate of mix vegetable make us very full and satisfied. This assam Africa fish taste superb, hot, spicy and sour, just like assam soup. It came with some chinese cabbage too, very appetizing. This assam big fish cost about RM28, to me it is very worth as you will get big fish with delicious soup and vegetable in it. When make order, the waiter asked is 4 big prawns enough for us? We said yes, but after that, he reduce our order to 2 big prawns. I was thinking, har? 2 prawn nia where got enough? But for first time, I thought it would be good to try 2 first, in case not delicious. When they served, I was shocked as big head prawn really big in size, luckily we did not order 4, and this 2 big head prawn cost us RM40. Gosh! If I order 4, I have to pay for RM80!! This plate of big head prawns was super delicious, sprinkle with chopped garlic and bird chili on top. They steamed with a kind of sauce, slightly sour, very special and delicious, if you ask me how the big prawn taste, I can say it tasted like lobster and crab. How good if I have the recipe? Mix vegetable, RM8 taste good too. They cooked with 4 types of vegetables. To us, this is one of the best Thai food restaurant (another one is Mae Salong in Sungai Petani). It was my nieces birthday again on last two weeks. Yes, again...she is now 10 years old and her sister whose birthday also fall in May, is 7 years old this year. Time flies, I am getting older and they are getting bigger. Our family normally celebratetheir birthday at the same day since both birthday fall in May. We always say they are "sipek ho mia" (super good fortune) because we celebrated their birthday yearly. Unlike my generation, I only get to celebrate my birthday on my 12th and 18th birthday.

"Firstly, put some oil, when the oil is hot, put in chopped garlic, follow by prawn or meat, after the meat is about to cook, put in bihun, then put......".   Standing in the kitchen and watching at mom frying bihun seems to be easy, step by step instructions were taught by this lovely mom to her daughter who does not know how to cook well. Her daughter forgot what her mom taught after walk out from the kitchen. And yes, the "daughter" here refers to me! But I am very thankful to have a great mom who can cook very delicious meals for her husband and children. Questions of "What to eat later? Where to eat?..." do not come across me as I have a great mom who will prepare lunch and dinner for us every day. However, this is no longer applicable to me during the time I stay alone at outstation. I have to cook and eat on my own.

 

Sugar Paste Cup Cake

I wanted to bake mini cup cake since long time ago. At first, my plan is to bake him a car cake since he likes to play with cars. But from his  respond, he prefer airplane, and sometime motorbike. What he likes the most is Mickey Mouse! But he had Mickey cake on last year birthday, we "reject" his request and ask him choose for others. So, in my final decision, I decided to bake him cup cakes with all those things on top.

1339306361933Both my nieces' birthday is fall in May. This year, I make one cake for them only. Elder niece wants Smurf, younger niece wants Angry Bird. I can't find Smurf image icing, at the end I make ANGRY BIRD cake! When elder niece knew I don't do Smurf for her, with disappointed voice, she said: "you don't know how to draw meh? Use blue colour to draw out only mah." Oh no, to her, drawing Smurf on cake is so easy. But sorry girl, I am not at that level yet! I told her next time will make her Smurf cake, hopefully next time she will request for some other easier one.

For the cake, I chosen green tea, it is easier in preparation and I believe it suits most people taste bud.


I made another same cake for friend's birthday. Hope they will like it too.

Ingredients:

Sponge Cake

260g Sponge cake mix
260g Eggs
70g Water
10g  Green tea powder
80g Corn oil

Filling (Mousse)
10g Green tea powder
100g Fresh milk
320g Fresh cream
20g Gelatine
80g Water
150g Cooked red bean

Method:

For sponge cake:
1. Heat up green tea powder and water.
2. Use mixer, beat sponge cake mix and eggs in high speed for 6 minutes. 
3. Switch to medium speed and slowly pour in green tea from step 1 to sponge egg mixture and beat for another 2 minutes.
4. Lastly, combine oil with sponge mixture.
Hint: To prevent sponge mixture separated from oil, take a portion of mixture combine with oil first, then just combine with the rest of mixture.

5. Pour mixture into baking pan, bake at preheated oven (160C) for 40 minutes or until cooked.
6. When the cake is cool, slice to 3 pieces in horizontal.

For filling:
1. Heat up green tea powder and milk.
2. Beat fresh cream.
3. Double boil gelatine and water until gelatine dissolve.
4. When step 1, 2 and 3 are cool, mix them all up.

To assemble cake

Place a slice of cake on a tray, pour in half of the filling on it, evenly put in cooked red bean, cover with another slice of cake, pour in the other half of filling, continue with remaining red bean and cover with last slice of cake. Keep in fridge until filling is set. Lastly, decorate with fresh cream.
