Happy Mooncake Festival from MnYfoodtalk

It has been a while since our last update in MnYfoodtalk, it is mainly due to our webpage was corrupted recently (thanks to the previous lousy web hosting company). All the posts were gone and we had to re-build and re-publish all the posts as we do not have a backup for our posts. During the downtime of our webpage, the poor service from the previous web hosting company was really dissapointed us and make us mad. Hence we had decided to change to new hosting company as they provide a better service to us. The two hosting companies did make a big different in providing services to their customers. For instance, the way they reply our requests did make a big different, you can't imagine how a service company can reply an email to their customers in a rude way and blame that the fault is from customers themselves. In fact we knew that was the improper server configuration that brought us all the nightmare and here we have no intention to blame any party, but the rude and irresponsible way of servicing customer from the previous hosting company had changed our mind in continuing to host under their company. So far, we are pretty happy with current web hosting company. One lesson learnt here, BACKUP YOUR BLOG OFTENLY!

 

Fast & Easy Kaya Jam Recipe

Comparison between mother's version and "my" version: mother's version "my" version very delicious delicious thicker a bit watery better fragrance less fragrance hard to get from outside same taste can get anywhere long hours needed (about 4 hours) fast and easy (less than 30mins) more patient done fast, suit for everyone can keep up to a month can keep up to a week I am too lazy to try mother's version although it is really really delicious. Hence came out my version. For those who like kaya, and lack of time or patient standing long hour keep stirring your kaya jam, my version is actually a very good try. It is better to make home fresh kaya jam since it is fast and easy to make. Try make a small bottle each time and finish it fast when it is still fresh, and make for new badge after finish. Ingredients: 90g sugar200 ml undiluted fresh coconut milk4 young/light green pandan leaves4 yolks (make sure no egg white at all) Method: 1. Cook sugar in a pot over medium-high heat until light brown, swirling slowly. Reduce heat to low. Keep swirling until sugar is medium-brown.2. Add coconut milk (beware of steam) and pandan leaves. Increase heat to high.3. Stir until coconut milk is just starting to simmer gently. Turn off heat.4. Slowly stir half of coconut milk into egg yolks. Next, pour all of egg mixture into remaining coconut milk in one go.5. Over medium to medium-low heat, cook combined mixture until slightly thickened.6. Reduce heat to low. Continue stirring until mixture is thick enough to coat spoon thickly. 7. Discard pandan leaves. Transfer kaya to a bottle. Leave until completely cool.8. Cover and refrigerate.

I had too much meat recently. Yes, I mean not only my food consumption, but also my body. My body fat is hard to reduce, everyday sitting in office after heavy lunch gained me a lot of weight. Recently, we went for vegetarian meals for lunch to reduce my guilty after consumed so much meat and oily foods. My colleague recommended this organic restaurant that serve vegetarian in Sg Ara, Life Organic. The aunty who served us said the shop is already opened for more than two years, but I did not realise it until my colleague brought us there.

 

DIY Sandwich Mold Bread Maker Cutter

This post, I am introducing a special sandwich mold cutter. It will cut away the bread "skin" that many people do not like to eat, and "seal" the filling nicely after cutting off the "skin". I bought this mold cutter from daiso Japan at 100yen. I found it very useful especially to seal sandwich nicely and look tidy.

IMG_20130724_110521Instant Ramen Museum is located at Ikeda-shi, Osaka. You can experience making your own cup noodle here. If you would like to make noodle from sratch, here is the place for you too. Besides, the history of the chicken ramen development, which is the world’s first instant ramen, and the changes in many products over the years can be found here too. Entrance is free unless you want to buy cup noodle or attend the making noodle class.

I visited this museum to make my cup noodle. After seeing through the ramen history and development process, I bought two empty cups from vending machine inside the museum, 300 yen per cup. Then I was arranged to sit at "art class corner" to draw and decorate my cup. After finished, I proceed to collect my ramen and choose the ingredients I like. You can choose 4 out of 10 ingredients. Then you can choose your soup base before proceed to final packing.

It is fun to make your own cup noodle, I did not join the making noodle class as it is reservation at earlier time. Overall, it was a fun experience here and I will enjoy my cup noodle with Camus after return to Penang.

IMG_20130722_214459It is not healthy to eat instant noodle, I know. It does not contain nutrision and not good for digestion too. I try to avoid eating it but once a while, I think no problem. One night, when I shop for my dinner at nearby convenient store, I can't find any bento available. At that time, I found instant cup noodle rice which was quite special. I bought one and bring back apartment for my dinner on that night.

It is rather convenient and fast to cook. Just add water to the cup rice and cook it in microwave oven. You can consume it after 2 minutes. Inside the cup rice, it has dried egg, dried shrimp, shallot and dried meat. It also came with a pack of sauce oil for you to mix with the rice after cook. So, if you do not want to eat instant noodle, you can try instant rice.

Kobe Beef and Kobe One Day Trip PDF Print E-mail

IMG_20130721_103322After Kobe trip with wonderful kobe beef dinner on 3 years back, I have another chance to visit Kobe again to enjoy world's famous beef steak. From forum and internet, travellers' feedback on kobe beef lunch cannot beat dinner set. With previous experience which Camus and myself will never forget in our life, I decided to give lunch a try and then make a comparison between set lunch and set dinner.

I did some survey before go for kobe beef lunch, Wakkoqu restaurant has many good review. So my plan is to visit this restaurant. We arrived at Sannomiya station on that day before 12pm and would like to have short walk around that area before go for lunch. When we just arrived at Sannomiya Hankyu Station, we saw a long queue outside another kobe beef restaurant. We walked closer to look at the menu, the price is more cheaper compare with Wakkoqu. I believed it has some good reasons why people queue for the meal. We followed the queue and had our kobe beef steak lunch. The restaurant I mentioned here is Steak Land.

We were arranged to dine at second floor, they served in tepanyaki style and guests were sitted around the table while the chef will cook and serve at center area. After put order, they served us salad, miso soup, steak sauce and plain water. When they brought two big pieces of beef (for 4 serving) to the table, I was regretted with my decision made. By looking at the kobe beef, it looks not fresh with brown in colour. Oh no, my main target for this trip gone. I had to stop blaming myself at that moment and pray hard that the beef will turn out good in taste. Compare with previous kobe beef dinner, I had to agreed that lunch is really not as good as dinner.

After looking at how the chef cook the steak (obviously not as "proffesional" as our kobe beef dinner's chef), I started to enjoy my meal. I changed my mind after my first bite on the medium cook kobe beef, it was still soooooo soft and melt in mouth. With 2980yen for this set lunch, I can say I was satisfied with it at this price. Of course, if you aim for better quality and environment, I would recommend Mouriya Restaurant which we went for dinner.

After the lunch, we proceeded with our trip at Kobe area. We walked from Sannomiya to China Town, then to Harbourland. Then end our one day trip at Kobe. I wish to return again for next Kobe beef romantic dinner with my dear Camus.

IMG_20130709_182045I have just passed my first weekend in Japan. This time I am in Osaka. For my first shopping, I bought a lot of foods, not for one day, but for one week. Since this time I will at here for only 3 weeks, so I bought some to bring back to Malaysia too.

On Sunday, I bought a pack of sashimi for my dinner. 6 types of sashimi in a box. Although it is from hyper market, but all are very fresh. I like salmon and prawn the most.

Just now, I tried the pre-pack sesame cold noodle. During summer, they have different kinds of cold noodle. This cold noodle is instant pack that I bought from same hyper market. Taste not bad too.

Others food that I bought include can coffee, yakult, biscuits, egg pudding that I like so much, fruit juice, milk tea that I miss so much, varient kinds of pocky and more.

Last few weekend, I had a trip to Odaiba with my colleagues. That was the fourth time I visited to Odaiba, a man made island in Tokyo. It is one of the popular tourist spots in Japan, famous with shopping and entertainment district. Rainbow Bridge, Statue of Liberty, Aqua City and the Palette Town Ferris Wheel are few famous spots in Odaiba. Of course that are not the all in Odaiba. Cool

While we walk around Aqua City, we found a restaurant that is serving lobster. Looking at the display set, it was so tempting. With a reasonable price of the set, we decided to give it a try.

BlueberryFarm_13The summer holiday in Japan has started on last Saturday. It is an one week holiday. I am very happy that I have a great time to enjoy and rest on this long long holiday.

Today, I have visited to a blueberry farm to pick blueberry. This is the first time I visited blueberry farm in my life. Full with excitement, I arrived in the farm.

In my mind, blueberry is sour. I don't really like sour fruits and I prefer sweet and nature taste. But out of my expectation, the blueberries are so sweet, juicy and tasty. I really have a shock and wonder, "why are blueberries sweet?" Haha...
