Home Dine Out Hawker

Ampang Homeland Yong Tau Foo 釀豆腐 | Ampang, Kuala Lumpur

Yong Tau Foo (stuffed bean curd) is a Hakka dish famous in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur. Tau Foo is stuffed with fish (or meat or pork) paste, hence the name "Yong Tau Foo". Since then, variety of vegetables or fried fritters is stuffed with the fish paste, but all are categories as "Yong Tau Foo". Two weeks ago, we travelled to KL for food hunting and shopping. Among the food we hunted in KL, Yong Tau Foo suits our taste the most! This was the first meal we hunted for when we first arrived in KL.

181 Open House | Juru Village 柔府新村, Penang

"We Share What We Have.....", this is a slogan of 181 Open House, a coffee house located at Juru, Penang. The coffee house open in July 2012 and operate by a Chinese couple of husband and wife. It was renovated from bungalo type double story old house at Juru Village, and "181" is plat number of their house. Before that, we have passed by the coffee house for many times, but could not get a chance to dine in there. Last weekend, we managed to visit them and had our lunch there.

Xuan Feng Ramen Restaurant | Krystal Point, Penang

If talk about my favourite Japanese food, ramen is one of them, especially tonkotsu ramen, tan tan ramen and many more. In Penang, there are not many restaurant selling this ramen, at least I can't recall any restaurant that selling it. If you know, I will be happy if you willing to share with me. Xuan Feng restaurant was opened on last year end. I was so excited when my colleague informed me they serve tonkotsu ramen. I get to know this ramen during my stay in Japan, the soup was cooked with pork bone (of course with other ingredients too) for long hours, hence you will get a very thick and sweet soup base. On last year, colleagues celebrated my birthday at Xuan Feng. I was satisfied with their tonkotsu ramen.

Heng Thai Seafood Restaurant (Thai-Chinese food) | Raja Uda

We found one Chinese-Thai food restaurant few weeks ago at Raja Uda, it was not our first intention to dine there. We were hungry and looking for something good and special for our dinner, we went to Kampung Baru for our first stop, looking for Japanese food, but there was an event held at Kampung Baru causing heavy traffic jam. We changed our dinner place to Salad Bowl at Chain Ferry, bad luck, it was closed on that day. We drove towards Raja Uda direction, Sawara steamboat get our attention and we sat in to read the menu. After 5 minutes, we walked out from Sawara due to super expensive of the meal. Finally, we went in this not so attractive but crowded restaurant. It was already 9pm and after make order, still have to wait for another 25-30minutes. I can say that it was worth waiting as the dishes that we ordered taste delicious and very similar to Thai local taste. That time was only Camus and myself, two persons cannot order much. One big fish, two big prawns and a plate of mix vegetable make us very full and satisfied. This assam Africa fish taste superb, hot, spicy and sour, just like assam soup. It came with some chinese cabbage too, very appetizing. This assam big fish cost about RM28, to me it is very worth as you will get big fish with delicious soup and vegetable in it. When make order, the waiter asked is 4 big prawns enough for us? We said yes, but after that, he reduce our order to 2 big prawns. I was thinking, har? 2 prawn nia where got enough? But for first time, I thought it would be good to try 2 first, in case not delicious. When they served, I was shocked as big head prawn really big in size, luckily we did not order 4, and this 2 big head prawn cost us RM40. Gosh! If I order 4, I have to pay for RM80!! This plate of big head prawns was super delicious, sprinkle with chopped garlic and bird chili on top. They steamed with a kind of sauce, slightly sour, very special and delicious, if you ask me how the big prawn taste, I can say it tasted like lobster and crab. How good if I have the recipe? Mix vegetable, RM8 taste good too. They cooked with 4 types of vegetables. To us, this is one of the best Thai food restaurant (another one is Mae Salong in Sungai Petani). They open during lunch time too. If you are looking for Thai food, visit this restaurant and give it a try. Location: 28, Jalan Raja Uda, Pusat Perniagaan Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang. Burger_2Have you ever eaten rabbit meat? ...deer meat...and camel meat? When Camus told me rabbit meat is delicious, my reaction: "yarrrkk, how can we eat rabbit meat?"

One day, when I taken lunch at Kompleks Bukit Gedung, Bayan Lepas, I found a burger store that sells weird weird types of burger, such as lamb and rabbit. Beef burger and chicken burger are very common to me, but lamb and rabbit are new to me. I informed Camus and brought him there for dinner.

TheRidge_5The Ridge - Teja By The Sea located at Batu Kawan, is a very nice place to enjoy food. We had our dinner there on last weekend with family. By the time we arrived there was already 7.30pm, too bad we missed the sunset view.

We ordered tomyam ayam with 2 bowl of rice, 2 lamb chops, 1 fish and chip and 1 roasted chicken. For drink, we have one big jar of fresh orange juice. Mee udang is recommended by waitress but it was closed after 7pm.

One big claypot of tomyam ayam, RM12. I like the sourness and little sweetness of the tomyam taste, not too spicy. I found the serving is quite proffesional, take note of how they served the white rice. This claypot tomyam is enough for 4-5 person according to waitress.

PgHill_6This is the first time we went to Penang Hill after visited there since years ago. In my mind, Bukit Bendera is a cool place, where you can go away from super hot Penang island. Also, being prepared that there is "nothing" at the top hill. With this mindset, I prepared a jacket, pizza and some light foods for the trip.

We went in early morning on last Sunday morning, arrived there at about 8.15am. After park our car at their carpark (RM3 per entry), we went to buy ticket. Ticket charge for adult is RM8 per person, if you show your Malaysia identity card to them (child is RM4). By the time we buy the ticket, there is no body in the queue, so we thought the visitor must be very few.

Durian_7June of year 2011 is the best time to indulge durians, the King of Fruits. Compare to past few years, this year durian's harvest is better and hence the price is predicted to drop week after week. (Hope my prediction is correct!)

Last weekend we had an outing visiting durian farm at Genting, Balik Pulau, Penang. It is the farm of my dad's friend. On our way to the farm, I saw many stores selling durians at roadside. The durian's aromatic scent awakened my groggy head.
